K-2 Physical Education
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade is a time to work on the foundation of fitness. During this time I like to focus on several areas; social behavior, motor skills, physical fitness and interest in recreation.
We work on our locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulative, perceptual and combined movement skills.
Locomotor - walking, running, hopping, jumping, galloping, sliding, skipping, leaping and rolling
Non-locomotor - stretching, rising, falling, swinging, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning and pivoting
Manipulative - grasping, releasing, throwing, catching, kicking and striking
Perceptual - kinesthetic, visiual, auditory, tactile, eye hand and eye foot
Combined movement - without equipment, small apparatus and creative games
The components of our Physical Education class are balance, endurance, strength, flexibility, agility, speed and relaxation. The purpose is to develop the heart, lungs, muscles, and joints through various activities like circuit training, interval training and games.
